Dinette Dining
Help! Blue Counter tops!?
Okay I have been waiting for our new townhouse for over a month. We move in tomorrow and went to have our first look late this afternoon (had seen others with same floor plan). The thing that is killing me is that the countertops are blue. Now I think that I am pretty creative so I not completely bummed. The only plus that I can think of right now is that the island sink/bar separates the dining area from the kitchen, lucky for me my dinette is black and so are all my appliances. What I am really looking for is a website where I can see some examples of how to make it work. I am leasing so painting and remodeling are not an option, plus I am six months pregnant and need some very simple ideas that I won't break my neck doing.....

What color are your cabinets?
Black, blue, & white is the 'in' color combo at the moment- so your dinette can look really fresh. Try to find some valances (kitchen window?), curtain panels (dining area), and rugs (under dining table), that will pull it together-

The next best place to purchase a cheap dinette set from is the classified furniture section of your local newspaper or community newspaper. If these two sources are not giving you what you need, you may want to check out the estate auctions. Many times, these auctions are due to tax liens or other financial problems and the executor may be willing to get rid of a great dinette set for pennies on the dollar. Estate auctions, however, need some searching around to locate.
Your next source is the on-line auction houses such as ebay and craigslist. You need to be careful with these sources as far as making sure about freight charges and return policies. You may also want to place a simple wanted ad in the bulletin board of your local groceries supermarket. You will be amazed at the responses some of these ads can generate. Of course, trying to off load an old dinette set from a friend is always an option. So if you do not have too much money to spend on a dinette set, do not panic; there is a cheaper solution available around the corner.
